I really liked "princess mononoke", but now it occured to me that it might have committed some cultural appropriation. Where does one draw the line between appreciation and appropriation though?
i mean princess mononoke is like made by japanese people and it deals with japanese encounters with western european civilization and ontologies of nature in relation to capitalist resource extraction and place-based spirituality
"You know what white people hate? Being called racist. Racist is the N-word for white people. Nothing else works. Cracker didn't work. Honkey didn't work. Old fang, whatever that means, didn't work. But you call white people racist and they flip out." - Key & Peele
Just thought I'd point out that a majority of your responses on here do not make any sense. I'm not talking about your points, because that's a whole different kettle of horrible, festering fish - I'm talking about clarity of expression. The things you say are just, well, they look like they're written in code half the time, they're impossible to make sense of so it's impossible to take you seriously.
White people took you us of the jungle, clothed and fed us, and how do you thank them? With some angry blog disrespecting the very people who saved you from being nothing more than a savage. You wouldn't have your computer to type out all your hate on, instead you'd be dying of malaria or being eaten by a rival tribe.
I am not white, and I find this blog to be horrendous! There is no need to spread hate like this, instead you should be spreading awareness and informative ideas.I doubt a person as angry as you seem to be will change their ways, but please give it some thought!
how can i stop hating white people? i have to work with them and it'd be a hell of a lot easier if i didn't want to constantly punch them in the face
in the fire next time, baldwin writes about how he used to hate white people, but then started pitying them, in order to not hate them anymore.
but no matter how generous you are, because whiteness is built on white supremacy, white people — even the anti-racists — just can’t help themselves. you probably won’t stop being harassed, or outright attacked — and those little insults, the little comments, the little lingering doubt as to whether you’re just imagining your white co-workers treating you differently, with less dignity, are all attacks — any time soon. they won’t give you a reason to feel any differently about them, in the long run. how can they, if their entire concept of themselves rests on a history of considering themselves superior to other humans, and acting the part?
Don't you think it's a bit generalized to say "white people suck" or perhaps "white bodies are disgusting" ? I'm not agreeing with the actions and social thoughts many of the European and western originated people, in fact i strongly disagree with some of their fundamental beliefs, but should you not have a little caution before condemning a whole group of people ?
also, cultural appropriation is not limited to, for lack of a better phrase, non-white cultures. It is a regular occurrence for people not of christian belief to wear the cross as a fashion trend. Whilst i do not believe it is completely appropriate, I can recognize the difference between ignorance of the bulk of the population and outright disrespect.
yeah except fuck like way most forms of christianity
I don't get white people who hate other white people for history. Just you come off as an asshole. I thought cultual apprppriation was about respect. Maybe not. But if you are just going to be a butt hurt little bitch that you are what you are, no one is going to take you seriously and you will never become more then just some one on the internet. Just idk people like you just confuse me so much. But have a good day, sorry white people "suck".
there's this one bitch in my school who consistently appropriates other cultures... one day this week she wore a sari, a feathered headdress, japanese sandals, and south african earrings. i see her in the stairwell a lot, am i obligated to push her down?
Call Robert Downey Jr. a dreamboat, several pages later, slip in "all white bodies are disgusting" in an otherwise reasonable reply, sit back and hear the butthurt of hundred of people who can only read one page.
robert downey jr, insofar as he’s white, is also a disgusting white body.
"All white bodies are disgusting" go fuck yourself, asshole, the last thing i need is for another person to tell me that my big body is disgusting. thanks for triggering me into negative eating patterns again.
your white body is disgusting, and it has nothing to do with your eating, just your being in the world.
Is it considered cultural appropriation for a white person to wear ear weights in their stretched ears? (And I mean plain brass ones that aren't specific to any one culture.) I've always wondered since a multitude of cultures wear them for different reasons...
OK, specifically on stretched ears:
Europeans in the Americas and elsewhere have violently repressed cultural self-representation, forcing people to stop stretching their ears, tattooing, wearing traditional clothing, etc.
Where I’m from, stretched ears are culturally and religiously significant. Europeans forced us to stop adorning ourselves in these ways. If white people now want to take up these exoticized practices for their own bodies, fuck them.
All white bodies are disgusting because of what colonialists like them did and do to colonized bodies like ours. Stretching your ears isn’t going to change that, it only makes you more repulsive.
