I have a concern over the response to this question: post/27896851473/my-asian-friend-who-is-not-japanese-wants-to-wear-a. Shouldn't the first question be asked is, "For what reason would said person wear this outfit?" Just because their not Japanese doesn't mean they cannot wear it! I say this because I'm Korean & when my non-Korean friends & I wear Hanboks my friends do not get called out for CA. Why? Because it's for when we visit my family in Korea. They know the culture behind wearing them.
yeah, theres’s a ton of important conversations that need to happen transculturally and situationally
My Asian friend (who is NOT Japanese) wants to wear a "loli kimono" and is annoyed with me for pointing out that it is cultural appropriation. HOW DO I EXPLAIN TO HER WHY IT'S DIFFERENT WHEN AN ACTUAL JAPANESE PERSON DOES IT aside from "It IS their own culture"
stare at them in the eye very seriously and think about being disappointed
would you consider China's building of an amusement park in Tibet (on top of other programs to encourage tourists to gawk at native Tibetan culture) to be cultural appropriation? It seems like they're trying to trivialize Tibetan self-identification by making it a commodity
I bought a Carmen Miranda style fruit hat and I want to make sure I'm not being racist. I looked her up and it says its something she herself coined so its not exactly just in her culture. I guess I just want a second opinion. Also is being a stereotypical genie for Halloween offensive?
Aren't you being hypocritical when you say all white people suck? I'm sorry, but some white people come to terms with the horrible things they've done and are trying to move towards a better future. I'm sure that other cultures histories aren't exactly clean slates either.
"i’m sorry, but some white people come to terms with the horrible things they’ve done"
i mean it’s chill that you’re ok with being a piece of shit i guess
i love your responses you make to the questions you get. most sj bloggers would get into really serious detail, or be really upset and snarky, or whatnot (those are all valid and valued responses, i should add). but you just laugh at them and outright refuse to dedicate thought into their idiocy. the longer their questions, the shorter your responses. it must leave people really puzzled and curious and vulnerable. they get up on their high horse and start a speech only to be laughed at.
yeah i mean ok spoiler
this tumblr is like, aware of what it’s doing? and how its speech-text-acts embed in sj tumblr discourses? and that’s why it works the way it does?
i'm really sorry but don't you find it a little rude to vilify an entire ethnic group just for the color of their skin? heinous crimes have occurred in every stage of history, by people who are of all different colors (and shapes, and religions). we all long for someone to blame for horrible, atrocious acts, but the past is over. we can no longer discriminate against people for their race or their beliefs. you can only judge people for who they are, what they say, and most of all, their actions.
